The Beacon Literacy Development Program has taught tens of thousands of children and adults to read. It has given them a second chance at discovering their full potential.
Developed by Canadian chartered psychologist, Philip MacMillan, and based on 25 years of research, the Beacon program uses a unique self-voice approach, and patented technology.
Not only does this process use the student’s own voice as a way to help reinforce the connection between sounds and text, it also employs a multi-sensory approach to be more effective to all learning styles.
Since 1994, Philip MacMillan has been spearheading literacy training in Calgary. Since 2001, Philip has worked in conjunction with Lani Donaldson, President and CEO of Beacon Literacy, at our Calgary headquarters.

Lani, herself, is dyslexic and the mother of a dyslexic child. She understands more than anyone the frustrations associated with reading problems, and how easy it can be for intelligent, articulate people to lose all traces of confidence or self-esteem.
Diagnosed during her university years, it was relatively simple for her to recognize the signs in her own daughter. She was told by the “experts” that her daughter was too articulate to be dyslexic, while the truth is that dyslexics often have very high IQs and are frequently very articulate as it is their only means of communication.
Lani searched for a solution and finally found it in Philip MacMillan’s program. In fact, she was so impressed with the results of the program that she bought the company!
