What is the Beacon Literacy Development Program?
Beacon is a Fast, Affordable and Effective program that utilizes the unique "Self - Voice Feedback" learning therapy in conjunction with the latest in reading research and technological development. This innovative teaching and learning technology combined with cumulative and structured multi sensory materials, produces very rapid growth in many areas important to the individual pupil's learning development, most notably reading, spelling, comprehension, concentration, and listening, especially in those students who are not progressing at a satisfactory rate.
What makes Beacon different from other programs you have seen?
There are three major aspects of The Beacon Literacy Program, which make it different than others you have been exposed to in the past:
- The speed at which it works, results occur almost immediately.
- The ability to help even the most dysfunctional reader, including ADD, dyslexic, Learning
Disabled, Speech/Language Disordered, Problem Reader's, and ESL.
- The degree of improvement, years of testing show consistent dramatic improvement. The average increase in students ages 8 - 16 is 2.6 grades.
What can this program do?
As mentioned before, this program has the ability to help even the most dysfunctional reader. Many reading programs are effective but are unable to help those already at a disadvantage. The Beacon Literacy Development Program can be used as a supplemental tool to any reading curriculum. It can improve skills of those who already read competently and help even those severely disadvantaged students catch up with their fellow classmates. This program will build the basic skills needed so that students can benefit more fully from all curriculums currently in place.
What results can you expect?
The Beacon Program can improve reading skills markedly, by a full year or more in word recognition skills. The sessions can be as short as twenty minutes per week and still produce growth in reading and spelling at a rate far in excess of any other remedial or corrective reading program including: ADD, Spalding, Distar, Wilson, Corrective Learning, Reading Recovery etc. The average increase for students ages 8 - 16 in the Beacon program is 2.6 grades.
What qualifications do the instructors have?
While many of our instructors are certified teachers, others come from various other related professional fields. Regardless of their professional backgrounds, all of our instructors have been extensively trained in cognitive therapy and the use of our exclusive technology. Beacon instructors have been selected from the best of the best. Almost all of our instructors have either had children of their own who have had reading difficulties or experienced difficulties in reading themselves when they were younger. As a side note: Many of our instructors came to work with us because they had children of their own or knew children that were in the program. As our president and CEO say, "I was so impressed with the program, I bought the company." Our instructional staff as well as administration understands the pain, frustration and anxiety that individuals and their families go through when a learning difficulty arises.
What will your student gain from The Beacon Program?
Perhaps the more appropriate question is "What will they not gain"? All children and adults have the right to be able to read and spell competently. Literacy is a right, and appropriate help should be available for those who have failed to learn with previous approaches. The ability to read is truly a gift, one that most of us take for granted. The self-confidence and ability that literacy provides should be available to everyone, even those with whom traditional approaches have failed. The Beacon Program offers all these things, a light in the darkness of illiteracy shining the way to a brighter future for your student.
