Time Management

One of the most effective study skills we can master is the skill of time management. It may not be on the top of your priority list but your success in school will depend on it. Studies have shown:

80% of the material you learn in a day will be forgotten in 24 hours unless you find the time to review it. Seems like reviewing would be a no-brainer?

If you review the material after 24 hours, it will take seven (7) days before you have forgotten 80% of it.

Here’s the really cool part. If you review it again, it will take up to thirty days to forget 80% of the information. Now that is valuable information to have and the importance of time management should now become very clear.

Now, what’s really stopping you from reviewing your materials?

In one word: HABIT. Effective time management needs to become a habit. If it does not become a habit we replace it with a much more destructive habit called, procrastination!

As Victor Kiam says, “procrastination is opportunity’s natural assassin.”

"Procrastination is opportunity's natural assassin" -- I really like this.

I personally had a struggle with time management. I was always procrastinating and end up not getting things done.

So, I devised a method for myself. I list all my daily priorities in order of importance. I focus on them one by one and I make sure I complete them at the end of the day. I even had to ask about time tracking to help with managing my daily tasks.

The key here is to just have focus and self-discipline. Everything else will follow.
