Elizabeth watched her daughter Sarah struggle to read. Sarah was bright, articulate and chatty during conversations, but she became a different child when she read. Her confidence seemed to drop and her mood darkened. She could tell Sarah seemed to be falling further and further behind in her homework and lately her confidence in other areas seemed to falter as well.
Where had she failed as a parent? What hadn’t she done? As she watched her daughter put her head down on the table to cry she felt like crying too. What else could she do?

Elizabeth felt what many parents feel – guilt, shame, and embarrassment because they don’t know how to help their child. They don’t know what they could have done, or haven’t done to make learning easier for their child. Don’t worry though. You’re not alone. As parents ourselves, we know there few feelings worse than watching your bright, articulate child struggle with reading. It’s not your fault. If your child is struggling it may be due to a learning disorder, missed school or just because their learning style isn’t compatible with the way they are being taught. In fact, there is little, if any, scientific evidence to support the ‘whole reading’ taught in many schools, and it is obvious that the system fails a lot of children.

At Beacon we use a unique combination of methods to ensure that your child benefits to the maximum.

Your child will work with materials recorded in his/her own voice, using techniques that use all three learning styles (auditory, visual and kinesthetic) to make them more effective.

The program is intensive and requires a strong commitment from you and your child, but with incentives such as movie passes and the sense of accomplishment that comes with rapid, obvious improvement, that commitment usually comes easily.
